This restaurant is a little jewel in the old town centre - small, welcoming and recently opened, it already boasts a mention by the Slow Food Association in its guidebook on taverns in Italy Osterie d’Italia. The owner, Nicoletta Molducci, brings all the experience and traditions of the azdora or housewife of Romagna to her food, showing an ability to serve the simple dishes of local culture and turn them into masterpieces. Her minute attention to detail, which extends to the restaurant furnishings, creates the warm and homely atmosphere only the food of our forefathers can equal. By leafing through the menu and listening to the suggestions of the staff, customers can rediscover dishes like stewed pork ribs served with cardoons or Volpine pears sautéed in Sangiovese wine. Needless to say, all dishes are prepared daily using fresh products; from soups to handmade piadina and “homemade” cakes. When it’s coffee time don’t forget to try the tortelli alla mostarda. For something to drink, customers can look to the restaurant’s shelves for inspiration and choose from the selection of local wines, grappa and liqueurs, such as Luigino (lemon verbena liqueur). It is just a short distance from Piazza del Popolo, along a narrow lane that leads from Via Gordini to the almost-unknown Piazzetta delle Antiche Carceri, which the local municipality has recently renovated and upgraded. Tradition, history and good food… Want a tip? Book early! <<<
