The Antica Osteria Al Cavaliere Nero is a lovely place, surrounded by greenery. It is a historical building that has been renovated and now offers all modern comforts so that customers can spend time in a warm, tranquil atmosphere. It is situated near the castle of Altoè, in the municipality of Podenzano in the province of Piacenza.
It is run by Edo and Luisella Rossi and has three cosy rooms and a shop where customers can taste cold cuts and cheeses. The rooms are particularly welcoming for dinner in the winter, whilst the portico-covered outdoor area, surrounded by nature, is the ideal setting for lunches and dinners in summer.
The cuisine offers typical dishes from the Piacenza area, both in the traditional version and in a version reinterpreted by the Cavaliere Nero. Customers can therefore choose traditional pisarei e fasò or pisarei with vegetables, traditional anolini cooked in broth or served with braised meat sauce and traditional tortelli or a version with rocket and saffron. Carefully chosen typical local salamis and cold cuts are served accompanied with freshly-fried gnocco (a type of dumpling) and homemade sauces and fruit pickles.
All first courses are handmade, as are the desserts that include the house special – a cake made using Ricotta cheese, almond biscuits and chocolate.
The wines are almost all local and include Gutturnio, Barbera, Malvasia and Ortrugo, but there are also some national labels too.
