Situated in the oldest square in the village, in the shade of the fifteenth-century Boiardo fortress, this small restaurant is housed in a renovated house in the old mediaeval borough. It has two small rooms on two separate floors and features a harmonious balance between rustic wood and brickwork and elegant crockery and tableware. The restaurant is family run; customers are welcomed and served by Contrano Medici and his son Simone, whilst the kitchen is the reign of another son, Andrea and his partner Sandra, who has been working alongside Nadia Montanari for a few years to prepare the dishes. The food choices are well-rooted in the territory with dishes that may appear simple, but denote a masterful knowledge of cooking, the use of fresh, seasonal ingredients and the typical ingredients of the area, such as mature Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and traditional balsamic vinegar of Reggio Emilia. All fresh pasta, whether filled or not (all handmade), the delicious meats, cold cuts, mushrooms and truffles from the hills near Reggio and the homemade desserts are the restaurant’s hallmark. The wine list boasts 500 Italian labels, with an excellent selection of wines from Emilia-Romagna. <<<
