Trattoria Ca’ Vecia is a few kilometres from the centre of Ferrara. Run by Arnaldo Carlotti, the restaurant is housed in a very old farmhouse that has been renovated and transformed into a welcoming trattoria. On entering the restaurant, customers cross the bar area to access a single, large dining room furnished in the warm, cosy and rustic manner typical of this kind of venue. It serves delicious traditional local dishes, beginning with starters such as “pinzini” (fried dough dumplings) served with homemade cold cuts. First courses include tortellini, tortelli with walnut sauce, Ferrara-style macaroni pie, pumpkin-filled pasta parcels with meat sauce, tagliatelle with wild boar sauce and pappardelle with duck sauce. All fresh pasta is homemade using a traditional rolling pin, which is called “sgnadur” locally. Main courses worth noting include assorted grilled meats, traditional local sausage served with mashed potatoes or a selection of other side dishes, cotechino, roast meats and duck. To finish off the meal in style, customers can choose from homemade desserts, such as tagliatelle pie, soft chocolate cake and zuppa inglese. <<<
