Just outside the town, in front of a park with a small lake, is Trattoria Casa Buia; a fun place that is great for families, making it ideal for meals out with kids, as well as romantic evenings. Casa Buia is an old trattoria that first opened in 1998. It serves traditional cuisine that has improved over time and now covers the simple recipes typical of Bologna, as well as less traditional dishes and more innovative cuisine too. The menu changes every three months, based on the availability of seasonal products. Customers can start with a Bolognese speciality of crescentine and tigelle (different types of local bread) served with cold cuts, squacquerone cheese, friggione (tomato and onion sauce) and vegetables in oil, but also tagliatelle with meat sauce, Romagna-style taglioline, tortellini and passatelli (breadcrumbs, beaten egg and grated Parmesan) in broth or with sauce, Ricotta-filled tortelloni with butter and sage and pasta with beans and continue with mixed boiled meats served with green sauce, cotechino (cooked salami) and zampone (stuffed pig’s trotter), braised beef and renowned “cotechino in jail” served with mashed potatoes. The restaurant has a great assortment of desserts, all homemade and particularly inviting: desserts, traditional cakes, ring cake (or brazadela), chocolate salami, apple cake and lots more. The wines served are all top-quality and include some of the best local labels. <<<
