In the old town centre of Parma and just a stone’s throw from the Ducal Park, the Art Gallery and Regio Theatre, Trattoria Corrieri is an old restaurant that has been welcoming both visitors and city dwellers alike for centuries. The original sign retains some of the atmosphere of the old inn that was open at the time of Marie Louise, Duchess of Parma when messengers stayed at this way station to eat and rest their horses that were tied to rings, which can still be seen to this day. Entering the restaurant – with its vaulted ceilings, dining rooms with brick columns and cane chairs, salamis and cold cuts hanging along the corridor, large window looking into the kitchen, period paintings and furnishings, old bottles of wine and the tempting fragrance of fried dough parcels - is like being taken back in time. Trattoria Corrieri favours the traditional recipes of Parma and typical local flavours. That’s why the pasta is always fresh and homemade, as are the delicious desserts including lemon cake, apple cake and chocolate and pear cake. Main courses too are prepared using carefully-selected meats, which are cooked according to traditional recipes, with dishes such as stuffed breast of veal or “vecchia di cavallo” (horse meat hash). The two large dining rooms mean customers can enjoy meals in company, whether for business or pleasure, or alternatively, or in the quiet, smaller dining room or even in the romantic garden in summer. <<<
